Meet Your Speaker - Alesha Dupout

After graduating from the Olds College VT program in 2013, Alesha began her career at Western Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Centre (WVSEC). Alesha has always had a passion for emergency and critical care medicine, specifically trauma and mass transfusions, and within a couple of years, advanced into the Critical Care Specialty Service. Currently Alesha is the mentoring VT Team Lead at WVSEC and is Recover Rescuer Certified. In 2014, Alesha collaborated with the Critical Care Specialists to kickstart and participate in the Patient Transport Unit, offering emergency transfers to WVSEC from referring hospitals. Additionally, Alesha works together with UCVM professors to teach skills labs to veterinary medicine students and has travelled the world to assist in teaching advanced skills at both IVECCS and EVECCS.

SESSION SYNOPSIS:

This presentation provides an exploration of the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias in dogs and cats. We'll examine the classification of arrhythmias, including bradyarrhythmias, supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, with a focus on their clinical significance and potential complications. We'll then delve into electrocardiography (ECG) interpretation in identifying arrhythmic patterns and guiding further evaluation. Treatment strategies focusing on emergency antiarrhythmic medications will be discussed alongside considerations for managing underlying cardiac conditions and addressing emergent situations.
