Courtenay Large (Chen), Medical Director
Dr. Courtenay Large has always called the Island home, born and raised in Duncan. Courtenay worked at Island Animal Hospital for one summer while earning her vet degree. She graduated from the WCVM in Saskatoon, SK, near the top of her class, receiving various awards, including an award for clinical excellence in exotic pet medicine. Courtenay has a keen interest in all creatures, furry, feathered or scaled and always looks forward to caring for a wide variety of species, and continuing to learn about them all along the way. She has a passion for teaching, surgery and community work and joined the Island Animal Hospital family right after graduating, where she has continued to pursue her interests and gain knowledge in veterinary medicine.
Courtenay is an active member of our community in Nanaimo, and the proud founder of a local non-profit clinic as well. She is joined on her endeavors by her husband Charles, their two beautiful boys, and their furry children, cats Harvey and Henry, and dog Abigail. Together as a family they enjoy sports, beach combing, traveling, and exploring this beautiful island we are lucky enough to call home!
