Serena Caunce, Veterinarian
Dr. Serena Caunce’s path to veterinary medicine was not straight and narrow. She grew up on acreage in the lower mainland of BC with a plethora of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, sheep and pigs. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology she worked as a zookeeper and volunteered with a mixed animal veterinarian, which drove her towards veterinary medicine. She upgraded her studies at the University of Calgary completing a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and was then accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. During her time in vet school, she completed a dual degree program with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine concurrent with a Master of Science degree. Her Master’s research took her to India where she used colour Doppler ultrasonography to assess large animal reproduction specifically cattle and water buffalo.
After completing her DVM in 2016 and her Masters in 2017, Serena moved to the Greater Toronto Area to be close to her sister and two adorable nieces. In Toronto, she focused on building skills as a small animal practitioner. In December 2020, she again followed her sister back to beautiful BC bringing along her husband and arriving at Tri Lake Animal Hospital & Referral Centre to assist with our General Practice and Emergency Services. In spring of 2022, Serena began her residency in veterinary behavior under the guidance of Dr. Sagi Denenberg, DVM, MRCVS, Dip. ACVB, Dip ECAWBM. She is currently seeing behavior cases through our referral service, while also continuing to support our general practice, urgent care, and exotic medicine cases.
When she is not working, she is spending time with her husband Randy, visiting with family, and training her cats Indi and YoYo.
