Sergije Prostran, Veterinarian
I knew I would become a veterinarian since kindergarten. I was always fascinated by nature and the animal kingdom.
Why did you choose to be part of the team at Newton Animal Hospital?
Our hospital has a long standing presence and tradition in the community. Hospital team support and our clients' confidence in our work allow me to practice good medicine and truly enjoy my work.
What area of veterinary medicine do you especially enjoy?
There is no area of clinical practice that I do not enjoy, but if I had to choose one area I like the best it would be the surgery.
Besides our lovely dogs and cats, what other animals have you enjoyed working with?
I spent my early days as a veterinarian doing large animal work. I still fondly remember working with dairy cows.
What do you enjoy doing on your time off?
On my time off, I enjoy traveling and spending time with people I care about.
Where did you complete your veterinary schooling?
I finished veterinary school in Veterinary Faculty, University of Zagreb, Croatia. I have been a veterinarian since 1995, licensed to practise in BC since 2008.
What additional certification or training have you completed as a veterinarian?
I have attended multiple multi-day orthopedic surgery courses, and obtained certification in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy (CCRT, Denver Co. 2017). My current passion is regenerative medicine and its use in geriatric and orthopedic cases, and I will dedicate my efforts learning more about it.
