Alexander El-Warrak is an accomplished clinical leader in the fields of veterinary surgery, with international experience leading clinical work and commercial research and development projects while serving in academic instruction and leadership roles within classroom and university hospital settings and private practice. He has built a consistent record of contribution to the fields of veterinary orthopaedics, oncology, surgical, forging an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations for over 20 years in North America.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he graduated from the Veterinary Medicine degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1991, followed by a surgical internship in France in 1992. He obtained a Master of Science in Veterinary Surgery from the Federal University of Santa Maria (Santa Maria, Brazil) in 1995 and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Surgery from the University of Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland) in 2001.

To further advance his surgical skills, he completed a surgical residency at the University of Illinois in the United States from 2001 to 2004 and AO-VET Fellowship for 2000/2001. His research paper was awarded the best research paper at the 2005 ACVS meeting. Alexander held a faculty role within the University of Montreal’s Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Sainte Hyacinthe campus in Quebec, Canada from 2006 until 2012. Then he had veterinary and administrative positions at the University Health Network and Sick kids’ hospital in Toronto as well as Western University in London, Ontario. In 2018, he decided to transition for good into private practice to follow his passion of orthopaedic surgery in the highest level.

Alexander is fluent in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish and speaks basic-level German. In his spare time, he is a part-time world traveler, full time foodie enjoying the company of his two lovely cats Leo and Kylo (fury certified trouble makers ).
