Erica Tyre, Veterinarian
Dr. Erica Tyre grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick and after completing her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry at the University of New Brunswick, she left for Charlottetown, PEI to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2005 and was elated to be offered a position as an associate veterinarian at such a well-known and progressive hospital as Alta Vista. Although sad to leave the Maritimes behind, she quickly fell in love with Canada’s beautiful capital city.
Dr. Tyre grew up surrounded by 4-footed family members of all sizes and has always had a deep love and respect for animals. For her, the deciding moment to pursue veterinary medicine came when her dog needed emergency treatment after being hit by a car. Being witness to the teamwork, compassion and dedication the team showed, she knew she had to help people and their pets as she had been helped.
The size and diversity of service at Alta Vista Animal Hospital offers countless opportunities to grow as a veterinarian but Erica quickly decided that she found great satisfaction in creating lasting bonds with people and their pets and made General Practice her home. Her time here has flown by because “when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work”. She loves the diversity of being a general practice veterinarian and the challenge that that presents. In particular, she enjoys internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology and, through continuing education, she strives to stay up to date with new and emerging therapies.
Dr. Tyre, her husband and two young daughters have made Ottawa their home and that decision has been approved by their cats, Betty White and Delilah. In her downtime (when not serving her cats), Dr Tyre can be found kayaking, downhill skiing, traveling or spending time with friends.
