John Swatman, Veterinarian
Dr Swatman grew up in Prince Edward County spending his summer holidays, weekends and holidays working on a nearby dairy farm. Though he did not always enjoy the early mornings, he did love working with the dairy cow heard and the farm dogs that accompanied them in the barn. Through his university years he worked on a Standardbred horse breeding farm which further molded his desire to become a veterinarian. After graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College he worked as an associate and a partner in ownership of large companion animal veterinary hospital that provided 24 hr emergency services as well as general preventative health care services. After a desire for change and joining the veterinary team at Alta Vista Animal Hospital, Dr Swatman has enjoyed making new relationships with clients and staff as well as reconnecting with his previous clients who have come to enjoy the benefits that the Alta Vista Animal Hospital has to offer.
Dr Swatman lives in Ottawa with his wife and 2 children. He has had a variety of pets over the years and currently they have comical Irish Setter named Rosie. His hobbies include camping, hiking, playing guitar, and spending time at the Nepean Sportsplex doing physical activities or watching his children in their activities. He has been active in the community by helping out coaching with his children's hockey teams, being a Scout leader and volunteering with a variety of activities at his children's schools.
