Jose Diaz

Dr. Diaz graduated from Universidad De La Salle in Colombia in 1996. He completed a residency in small animal neurology at the Ontario Veterinary College and Canada West Veterinary Specialists and Critical Care Centre. Dr. Diaz is the first specialist to offer a Veterinary Neurologist Service in Alberta. His areas of interest and expertise include providing consultation and treatment for patients with neurologic disorders including spinal cord diseases and neurosurgery, epilepsy, meningoencephalitis and neuromuscular diseases.

In his free time, Dr. Diaz enjoys photography with a special interest in wildlife as well as spending time with his wife, 2 daughters as well as their 2 cats and 2 dogs.

The veterinary neurology service at VCA Canada C.A.R.E. Centre specializes in diagnosing, treating and managing all aspects of neurological diseases in dogs and cats. Pets can suffer from many neurological diseases including: epilepsy, meningitis or spinal cord disorders and the neurology service can provide the expertise and advice that can help family veterinarians and owners when their pets are affected with these disorders.

The neurological system is a complex network of pathways and centers that include among other structures the brain, cerebellum, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles. During a consultation with the neurology service a very detailed, specially tailored history is taken to highlight the functions of the nervous system. A thorough examination of different components of the nervous system is performed and if it is indicated, state-of-the art diagnostic aids are also available including CT scan and MRI to help us understand the complex nature of the nervous system.
