The Pet Wellness Network (PWN) is a group of six general practice animal hospitals across the greater Toronto area. The group has been serving pets and their families since 1986.

In 1986, Dr. Sheldon Jafine joined Willowdale Animal Hospital, Toronto’s first 24 hour veterinary hospital as a partner alongside founder Dr. John Catherwood. Over the next two decades, Drs. Jafine and Catherwood acquired Downtown Animal Hospital, Bloor Animal Hospital and Beaches Animal Hospital. Drs. Jonathan Bloom and Robert Wong Pack were brought in as partners to help the small group flourish.

The partners decided that the best direction for the group of hospitals was to have a working partner in each location and allow each hospital to develop a strong local community focus. Dr. Mark Dilworth became a partner at Beaches Animal Hospital, Dr. Lu Vihos at Downtown Animal Hospital, and Dr. Suzanne Lyons a few years later at Bloor Animal Hospital. The Pet Wellness Network was officially born.

After working in London, England, Dr. Robert Wong Pack returned to Toronto, and acquired Scarborough Animal Hospital. In 2011 Richmond Hill Animal Hospital joined PWN with Dr. Issam Kadri as the working partner and just a few years later, Dr. Kathy Alcock joined the group at Ashbridges Bay Animal Hospital.

As a group, PWN is dedicated to excellence in veterinary medicine, community involvement, and in being an employer of choice in areas such as scholarships, internal promotion, continuing education and health benefit packages.

The group’s original practice, Willowdale Animal Hospital, joined the VCA Canada family five years ago, and with the remaining six hospitals joining in December 2020, the journey has come full circle.
