Born to a Mexican mother and a Canadian father, Rocio was raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Inspired by her mother, a dermatologist, Rocio developed an interest in medicine from a young age. She followed her passion for medicine and completed her veterinary studies at the Universidad de Guadalajara, graduating in 2015.
Upon graduation, Rocio split her time between clinical veterinary practice and teaching first year veterinary students at Cuauhtemoc University.
Her areas of interest are internal medicine, ophthalmology and exotic animal medicine. Over the years, she has worked with many types of exotic animals including tigers, lions, monkeys and reptiles.
In March of 2022, Rocio made the move to Canada to join the team at the Vancouver Animal Emergency & Referral Centre. She plans to pursue her Canadian veterinary license in the near future.
From Rocio: “I consider myself as a really honest and hard-working person. I love working with animals, which is why I am always happy to be at work. I am happy to be in Canada, learning about this new culture and growing as a person and as a veterinarian.”
