Dr. Danielle Zwueste and the neurology support team look forward to being able to provide our community with services ranging from consultation alone to comprehensive management of complex neurological disease to ensure each pet is offered the best option for care. Dr. Zwueste is highly experienced in both surgical and medical management of neurological cases and will be able to utilize sophisticated, non-invasive diagnostic testing modalities including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomographic imaging (CT), and electrodiagnostic testing (including BAER testing) to ensure accurate and specific information about the underlying condition.

Dr. Zwueste has recently relocated to Victoria after practicing in Vancouver at the VCA Canada Vancouver Animal Emergency and Referral Centre for the past two years. Following graduation from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, Dr. Zwueste completed a rotating internship in Toronto in 2013 before relocating to Davis, California where she completed a three year residency in neurology and neurosurgery at the University of California, Davis. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology) in 2016 and went on to join the WCVM faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences – a position that allowed her to combine clinical practice with teaching and embarking on research opportunities to advance veterinary neurology. Dr. Zwueste has two cats (Holly and Cornelius) and a dog (Tundra) of her own and is thrilled to be able to work and play on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Neurology

Neurological conditions affecting dogs and cats include intervertebral disc disease, epilepsy, meningitis, encephalitis, head trauma, spinal cord injuries, vestibular disorders, neuromuscular diseases, and cancer. Our neurology team is dedicated to providing you and your pet with the best options for diagnosis and treatment. Our team is highly experienced in both surgical and medical management of neurological cases.

Our goal is to work closely with your family veterinarian to provide services ranging from consultation alone to comprehensive management of complex neurological diseases. Consultation with the neurologist begins with a thorough neurological examination, the goal of which is to localize the problem to a specific area of the nervous system. We can then recommend and discuss the most appropriate tests to reach a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

Diagnostic modalities readily available include on-site MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography), digital radiography, and CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) analysis.

Consultations with the neurology team can be made by referral from your family veterinarian. We look forward to participating in your pet’s care.
