Dr. Michael Perkel grew up in northern New Jersey and completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at The College of New Jersey. His passion for veterinary medicine led him to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Following graduation, Dr. Perkel further honed his skills in a year-long internship at VCA Alameda East in Denver, Colorado. He then pursued advanced specialty training in Small Animal Internal Medicine through a residency at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, achieving board certification in 2025.
Dr. Perkel enjoys all facets of internal medicine, with particular interests in endocrinology and hematologic disorders. He values a collaborative approach to patient care and enjoys working closely with referring veterinarians and other specialty services to ensure patients receive comprehensive, well-coordinated treatment.
His procedural skills include gastrointestinal endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, abdominal ultrasonography, feeding tube placement (E-tubes and PEG tubes), bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, and interventional procedures such as urethral and tracheal stent placement.
Outside of work, Dr. Perkel enjoys spending time outdoors and with his dogs, Pika and Voda, and his cat, Midnight.
