Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre is proud to partner with the Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB), a not-for-profit organization that collects, processes, and distributes canine blood for veterinary medical needs across Canada. This vital service allows us to provide on-demand blood transfusions to patients in need. As a VECCS certified hospital (VECCS – Certification Levels), access to blood products can be essential in supporting patients who have sustained trauma or other life-threatening illnesses.

Western hosts canine blood donor clinics throughout the year. We could not do this without our brave volunteer canine donors and their supportive families. We are always looking for new canine blood donors to join the pack! By participating in this program, your dog will receive complimentary bloodwork to screen for blood-borne infectious diseases during every donation (and microchip identification, if not already present). You can find more details about our upcoming clinic dates here.

To learn more about how you dog can become a canine blood donor and other ways to support our blood donor program, please contact Lindsey Strang RVT, VTS (ECC), our blood donor liaison, or visit (
