Dr. Manu Boller graduated from veterinary school at the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1997, where he also completed a doctoral thesis in anesthesia and a veterinary anesthesia residency. He then moved to Philadelphia, USA, to undertake a specialty training program in veterinary emergency and critical care and a fellowship in the field of resuscitation science at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Penn’s Center for Resuscitation Science where he investigated novel strategies to optimize CPR and post-cardiac arrest care with a focus on controlled reperfusion and emergency cardiopulmonary bypass.

In 2012, Manu relocated with his family to Australia, where he was Associate Professor in small animal emergency and critical care at the University of Melbourne, Australia. In 2019, he was jointly awarded the Jack Mara Scientific Achievement Award of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, the highest accolade for scientific achievement by that College, for his contributions to veterinary resuscitation science. In 2020, he received the Outstanding Clinical Research Award by the Melbourne Veterinary School, Australia. Manu is co-chair and co-founder of the RECOVER initiative (recoverinitiative.org/) which published the first consensus- and evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines. The Guidelines have now been translated into several languages and are used by veterinary professionals and pet owners around the world. Manu published widely in the field of resuscitation science and other topics pertinent to veterinary emergency and critical care and is a prolific international speaker.

In 2021, he moved with his family to Victoria, BC to help establish the Critical Care Service at VCA Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital. On the clinical floor, he is passionate about delivering advanced care to severely ill dogs and cats based on evidence and in close collaboration with the pet’s family to achieve best possible outcomes with a particular focus on each patient’s quality of life. Manu lives on the island with his partner and two children, a globe-trotting terrier Pip, a hognose snake, a bearded dragon, a horse, and a fascination for design, art and music.
