Dr. Amber Backwell

Dr. Backwell is a 2018 graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to veterinary school, she obtained her Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Public Health degree from Simon Fraser University, and also worked in the human health field for a time. Upon graduating veterinary school, Dr. Backwell completed a rotating internship at the VCA Canada Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre in Calgary, after which she worked in general practice in British Columbia. She returned home to London in 2022 to be near family, and is happy to now be working in emergency medicine again at the VCA London Regional Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital! Dr. Backwell has a strong interest in emergency and critical care medicine, feline medicine and wildlife conservation. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son and their three cats, as well as travelling and hiking.
