Penelope Buechner, Ophthalmology

DVM, DACVO

Penelope graduated from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the top of her veterinary technology class in 2003. She then worked as a veterinary technician at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine where she specialized as an ophthalmology technician and discovered her passion for veterinary ophthalmology. In 2006, she achieved early admission to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine following two years of undergraduate studies. Penelope graduated with distinction in 2010 and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a one year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Following the internship she was accepted to a three year comparative ophthalmology residency with Eye Care for Animals in Phoenix, Arizona, which she completed in June 2014. Penelope practiced in Houston prior to moving back home to Canada and joining the VCA Canada Guardian Veterinary Centre team. In July 2016, Penelope successfully wrote her board certification to become a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.

Penelope enjoys camping, skiing, hiking, and yoga in her downtime and spends all her time with her Flat Coat Retriever Elliot and her wonderful husband Arlen.
