ENSURING THE SAFE DELIVERY OF ANESTHESIA.
WE LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE IN THE CARE OF YOUR PET
Veterinary anesthesiologists have been a recent addition to the private practice sector. With public education, awareness and the vital link between the human-animal bond, this specialty plays an important role in the delivery of safe anesthesia to our pet family members.
The anesthesiologist will review the patient’s history, blood work and perform a thorough exam, paying special attention to the heart and lungs. A pain management and anesthetic plan is developed for the individual patient and procedure. Your pet will be continuously monitored under anesthesia by our trained registered veterinary technicians. With direct communication with the anesthesiologist, any abnormalities can be identified, should they occur, with quick intervention. At MOVEH we have the capability to monitor the patient with non-invasive techniques (heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate and body temperature) but also have advanced monitoring (direct arterial blood pressure, blood gases), mechanical ventilation and pain relieving techniques (local regional blocks, constant rate infusions of pain medication and epidural anesthesia) for more demanding procedures and critical cases.
CASES THAT REQUIRE THE EXPERTISE OF A BOARD-CERTIFIED ANESTHESIOLOGIST ARE:
Surgical corrective cardiac procedures (i.e. patent ductus arteriosus, pacemaker implantation) or patients with advanced cardiac disease that need general anesthesia for any procedure
Co-morbidities that increase their level of anesthetic risk. Patients with acute or chronic diseases requiring any general anesthesia (i.e. liver, kidney or endocrine disease)
Neurological cases: Patients with intracranial disease requiring MRI or brain surgery. Patients undergoing cervical or intervertebral disk surgery
ICU patients that require diagnostic, planned or emergent surgical procedures
A VETERINARY ANESTHESIOLOGIST CONTRIBUTES TO THE VETERINARY COMMUNITY BY:
Providing advice calls regarding anesthetic protocols and patient management
Collaborating with both owners and referring veterinarians to help manage pets living with chronic pain
Providing continuing education seminars, interactive tutorials and technician training
