Tumor Specific Electroporation

Veterinary Tumor Specific Electroporation Services in Oakville, ON

We are excited to announce a new treatment modality available to patients at MOVH!

Tumor Specific Electroporation (TSE), a form of electrochemotherapy, is an exciting advancement whereby local application of electrical pulses causes tumors cells to take up a larger amount of chemotherapy leading to enhanced cellular death.  TSE can be used for many different tumor types, both for management or treatment of tumors of the skin and mouth and for scars where tumor cells are present at the margins.  In contrast to radiation therapy, the treatment is delivered in 2-3 doses under sedation with little to no side effects to the normal tissues.  This technology will help us improve and extend quality of life for our adored patients.

Some specific examples of cases where TSE can be utilized:

  • Incompletely resected soft tissue sarcomas, mast cell tumors, and other malignant tumor types to prevent local recurrence
  • Small dermal and subcutaneous masses in areas that would be difficult or invasive to excise
  • Perianal masses
  • Palliation of oral tumors, such as malignant melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma
