Agatha Kisiel
Dr. Agatha Kisiel is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons who practices a variety of orthopaedic, soft tissue, oncologic, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Kisiel obtained her veterinary degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2007 and completed a small animal rotating internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) in PEI the year after. Following her internship year, she remained at the AVC where she completed her small animal surgical residency. Dr. Kisiel successfully obtained ACVS board certification in 2012. During her residency, Dr. Kisiel also completed a Master’s of Science degree program with her research focused on canine mesenchymal stem cells; her research findings were presented at the 2011 ACVS Veterinary Symposium and her work published in the American Journal of Veterinary Research.

Dr. Kisiel enjoys spending time with her young family and her cat Miss Kitty, cycling, and cozying up with a good book.

Surgery

The VCA Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital surgery team is committed to providing the best quality of surgical care when your pet requires the knowledge, expertise, and skills of highly trained surgeon. Drs. Carl Porter, Scott Joudrey, Shannon Wainberg and Rhea Plesman are dedicated to implementing the best quality of compassionate care to each patient by utilizing the most up-to-date surgical recommendations to manage your pet’s condition. Our surgery team also incorporates the highly trained technical abilities and experience of registered veterinary technicians and animal care attendants, who bring a detail-oriented and individualized clinical approach to managing your pet in our hospital.

Our team of board-certified and residency trained surgeons, licensed technicians, and animal care attendants are fully supported by our other specialty departments including anesthesia, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, neurology, and critical care, where our clinicians are also board-certified in their respective specialties. Our commitment to a team approach to evidence-based medicine ensures each pet patient, and their family member is afforded the highest quality of capable and empathetic care.

Pain management is a significant component of the work performed by the surgery department and our team is devoted to providing each patient with the safest and most pain-free experience possible. Our anesthesia team provides a dedicated patient care technician, under the direction of the anesthesiologist, to ensure that each patient receives an individualized and well-supported recovery from all surgical procedures. Any patients requiring a higher degree of monitoring and intervention post-surgery will be admitted to our intensive care unit under the supervision of the critical care specialist to ensure the best possible outcome for each pet. Our hospital provides 24 hour care and an experienced veterinarian is always in the hospital to monitor all postoperative patients, while a surgeon is on call for out-of-hours emergencies.
