Dr. Van Hesteren grew up in north central Ohio before joining the United States Marine Corps. After leaving the service he attended Ohio State University where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in microbiology. He then Graduated form University of Wisconsin Madison with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Pursuing special training in medicine and Oncology, he practiced in Florida and Washington before joining VAERC as an emergency Veterinarian in early 2025. In his free time he enjoys cooking and wrangling his best friend, Zenobia, a boisterous German Shepherd with a disdain for squirrels.
