Dr. Kaela Shaw received a Bachelor of Science Honours (BScH) from the University of Guelph in 2012 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2016. She then completed a small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Referral Centre in Toronto. The following year was spent working as a locum emergency veterinarian at various specialty hospitals in the Toronto area. Dr. Shaw then returned to the Ontario Veterinary College to complete a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care, which she completed in parallel with a Master of Science (MSc). Her research focus was biomarkers of the endothelial glycocalyx in sepsis and the effects of intravenous fluid therapy on the glycocalyx. Some of her professional areas of interest include sepsis, fluid therapy, transfusion medicine, acute kidney injury and mechanical ventilation.
Outside of work she enjoys travelling, being active, and spending time with her husband and family at the cottage. She currently shares her home with her cat Clark.
